If you work outside the home, you have the opportunity of sharing your faith at your workplace. These opportunities may arise in different ways: during conversations with coworkers over lunch or breaks, during a task that you are assigned to do, or various other situations.

Recently, I've had opportunities to share my values and opinions with a few of my coworkers while they shared their values and opinions with me. Although we did disagree on some things, it gave us a chance to discover some things about each other and maybe gain a new insight as to why we believe what we believe.

How are some ways that you share your faith in the workplace?

Do you take a chance to let others know what you believe and why you believe it?

How do they take it?

Do you listen to find out what they believe and why?

Do you end angry at each other for any possible differences, or do you appreciate the opportunity to learn about your coworkers?

In every class I taught last year, I had some students who were very vocal about their faith and others who just lived it out... and sometimes in a secular university, that can bring a lot of heat.  I've noticed that those who lived it out were much more likely to gain the respect of their classmates, were able to build relationships with them, and to speak from their hearts instead of "cramming the Bible" down the others' throats.

Those students have reminded me of what it means to be a Christ-follower in a secular setting... I went from a public school to a Christian college, back to a secular school.  Throughout the past year, I have been able to come alongside some students with troubles at home or in other classes.  I wouldn't have been able to connect with them if I hadn't lived out what I believed.

And having a pastor as a colleague doesn't hurt any either...
